Cheap Domain Registrar
In the modern business world, Internet use is almost imperative. Those companies who fail to make use of the vast resources and advertising capability the Internet offers will quickly fall behind in the race and eventually collapse in the dust of other more tech savvy corporations. The good manager will realize just how powerful the web can be both in terms of advertising and sheer customer service â?? if you can make a website that does the same thing as well or better than a phone call or in-person visit will, youâ??ll be one step ahead in relating to todayâ??s computer using market.
If youâ??re looking to create a web site for your company or even just for your own private use, the first thing youâ??ll have to know about is domain name registry. On the World Wide Web, Internet sites are distinguished from each other by the use of domain names. These are the addresses you type into your web browser in order to get somewhere www.[web site].com is the format many domains take, though they may also end in such extensions as .net, .org, .gov, .uk, or any number of other endings.
For those computer users operating out of the U.K., youâ??ll run very quickly into a company called Nominet. Nominet is the fourth largest domain registry corporation in the world and is responsible for every web site in existence with the .uk web address extension. Every time you log onto a website that ends in .uk, you are logging onto a website that has been serviced by the Nominet UK Internet Registry.
Because Nominet is such an enormous registration service, it usually does its work through a third party such as an agent or domain registrar. These agents, sometimes referred to as â??registrarsâ? or â??tag holders,â? may be affiliated with Nominet, but will work for you in the process of registering a domain name for your corporation or private use. If youâ??re interesting in registering your own domain name, check out the list of agents available on Nominetâ??s website at www.nominet.org.uk.
Agents will perform other domain related actions for you as well, such as registering new domains or renewing existing ones. Only Nominet, in fact, can perform some duties on .uk domains â?? if you wish to transfer the ownership of your domain to someone else, or wish to buy someone elseâ??s domain, that transfer will take place through Nominet.
When you register your domain, Nominet will confirm your registration by sending you a letter in the mail containing a form for the confirmation of registration. This allows you to have hard copy evidence of your digital transactions and helps to prevent identity theft by making sure the people registering domains are really who they say they are.
The Nominet service is cheap, too â?? for a standard registration, Nominet only charges two and a half pounds per year, and offers two-year registration blocks. This is especially cheap when compared with other leading registration services, which may charge as much as five pounds a year. This clear financial advantage, along with the respectability and reliability offered by the worldâ??s fourth largest Internet domain registration service, makes for a good choice through sound business sense.
So, when youâ??re considering what domain registry service to use when setting up your UK based web site, look first to Britainâ??s main registry service. Five million British domain holders canâ??t all be wrong, and you can be one of the right ones. Go ahead and research the alternatives, and youâ??ll learn just how much better a deal Nominet really is. Check it out today.

Cheap domain registrar that does NOT take days to make your domain active?
I can't use 1and1, because they take forever. I'm looking for something cheaper than $8.
i'm not looking for a host. i have one. i'm looking to purchase a domain and not have to wait days before my site is live. some hosts hold up the propagation process because they have a lengthy order verification process. remember, it has to be cheaper than $8. i think you have to purchase hosting with godaddy to get their cheap domains.
I have never had a registrar take more than 10 or 15 minutes. Perhaps what you're really looking for is a hosting provider?
In any event, I've used godaddy.com as a registrar for a long time and I've never had a domain registration take more than a few minutes.
You can get a godaddy coupon code anywhere. Codes for a $6.95 .com registration are available and do not require you to purchase hosting. You can use 'cjc695dom' or 'OYH3'. These expire every few months, but there's always a new one and they're easy to find.

You're going to probably have problems finding a registrar that is quicker than 24 hours, as it takes about that long for your nameserver changes to propagate. I've been using Godaddy for years and they're generally quick.

It usually takes about 24 to 48 hours for a domain to become fully active. This time is required for all name severs worldwide to "register" your name.
Expecting less than 24 hours for a domain name to become (fully) active is asking FAR(!!) too much. Before the domain name is fully active you can can use the ip address of the domain.
